YAP (Yet Another Post)

So, a couple things.

First off, I finally got the MMS service working on my PDA phone. Turns out it was a billing issue. Apparently, you can get a crazy cheap data plan with AT&T is your account rep knows what he or she is doing. The only problem with it is you can’t send MMS messages on it. Which for most businesses is not a problem. I had to bump up the cost of the data plan from $20 to $50 per month. I read somewhere (tracked it back to an astrophysicist at the University of Leicester) that, on a per byte basis, it is cheaper to transfer data to and from the Hubble telescope than it is to send text messages.

Secondly, I feel horrible about not posting lately. It has been over a week and I could feel the perfectionist in me thinking, “why bother at this point?” I’m glad I’m bothering.

So, the idea is, when I’m just sitting around, but not near a computer, I can do a Twitter-esque blogspot post, replete with multimedia, from just about anywhere, using my PDA cellphone.

It’s funny how the word multimedia has entered the lexicon. I remember my dad using it when I was a kid, in more of an abstract sense, when he was pushing the idea that you could do more with a CD than just listen to music. “No, seriously, we should put pictures and video on them!” It is certainly cemented when multimedia was developed introduced. Oh, how things have changed.

Furthermore, I’ve been taking a lot of still and motion pictures that I have yet to post up here. Most of them were taken at high res, so once I get them compressed I’ll post them up here.

I just tried typing out a message on the keypad and found it oddly difficult. Maybe it’s all the Gran Turismo I’ve been playing lately. Maybe it is the sunburn I got over the weekend. Maybe the keys are just sticking.

Anyway, it’s going to take some getting used to, but I think this is going to be phun. I was using twitter faithfully until I got sick of not being able to easily post multimedia. So ofter what I am seeing when I am out and about is compelling only in its visual phorm. And I lack the writing skills necessary to effectively communicate the first-person experience through language. That, and I’m limited to 128 characters per post.
