By the way, why is no one talking about Germany being stuck with the ECB anyway?
For those of you who don’t know the history, here is the simple version. Germany used to be in two parts: East and West. When the Cold War ended, Germany wanted to reunite. But, the low countries, France and Great Britain would only allow this to happen on one big condition: the new Germany would have to allow its Deutschmark currency to become part of the market basket that would form the foundation of the new Euro.
So, if the Euro goes away – and the Deutschmark comes back – does Germany need to partition itself again? Or was that always an empty promise?
